Pain & Heartache. Is it worth it?

Friday was an extremely hot day, but the weather wasn’t the only thing keeping temperatures high. In a relationship fights are common and normal. In fact if you don’t fight, there may be something very wrong. Anyway, that’s beside the point.

When two people get closer to one another, they fight even more. They fight about all the things they have between them. It seems that the more you get to know someone the more stuff you have to fight about. These fights start with the tiniest of things and escalate beyond expectations. But why do we fight? And what do we fight for? Our own satisfaction? Or to prove our worth, how much we mean to each other?

I guess the correct answer is all of the above. When you get to know someone, you get to a point where all the little things and habits that you could put up with before, (i.e. being unresponsive or having limited responses) pissed you off so much that it becomes the subject of a quarrel. That and the more you get to know someone, the more you know about their thoughts and ideas and sometimes those thoughts and ideas contradict with your own and it starts a fight.

Fights can also be feud by jealousy. Whether you know it or not, when we, as humans get close to someone we tend to want to be the only and most important person in their life, even though we know that can never happen. And when we think that our position in each other’s hearts are a risk because of another person we become jealous and that could lead us to do and say things that we don’t mean.

So are the fights worth it? I think not. All you get out of these fights is a crack in your relationship. And one day it will break. I guess when we get to that point in any relationship we just have to believe in what we mean to each other, look out for the little things that count and be a little more patient with one another. This way, at least we avoid getting hurt and hurting those that we care about over things that once you’ve thought about it, are really small and stupid. Don’t you think so?

xoxo
